AML Spotlight: AML Showcase 2020

Hello everyone and welcome to the first post in our AML Spotlight series. In this series we will spotlight each of our shows from the AML Showcase 2020 and implore you, dear reader, to give us feedback on them by taking a quick survey (and/or commenting on the post). Without further ado, we present…

The video above was our complete showcase that we aired on various places around the internet this past September: The AML Showcase 2020. Meaning today’s spotlight is on the showcase as a whole.

When this thing—whatever it is—first started, we didn’t have a nice and neat showcase in mind. Originally, we were just going to post the separate videos on YouTube. However, during the two years of work on the showcase, a lot changed, and a lot grew. We never expected to have enough content for a showcase. Besides daybreak psychosis everything was originally about the length of an episode of Kit, but as we worked everything grew.

I don’t recall the exact moment we decided to do the showcase, but I can guess, and I guess it was sometime around mid-2019. We realized we had a lot of content, especially with the dual versions of the Mild Education episodes and the Child 2 Bonus video. The decision to do the showcase wasn’t as simple as saying, “Oh, yeah, let’s do that,” though. Snitching together this beast meant we would need to resub it… somehow.

We had decided after completing the initial Kit pilots that subtitling these videos was important to us. It made them complete. So, if we were going to make a showcase, it too needed to be subbed. Which meant 1 of 3 things: 1) Abandon this crazy idea of doing a showcase because subbing this beast would be way too difficult, 2) sub it with are then current method (which was greatly improved from our original method) but would take an impractical amount of time, or 3) improve our method (which would add R&D time). We choose option 3 and got to work.

On a side note, it probably doesn’t make sense why subtitling was such a venture, but it just was. We may do a future post about it because we have a lot to talk about when it comes to Subtitling and the AML Showcase 2020 (and no, that’s not a new show).

Anywho, the final piece of the puzzle was where do we put it. Initially, simple—just YouTube. But then 2020 happened. First, something good. We got fiber internet which meant we could do a lot of things that simply weren’t possible before. Then, a lot of bad stuff. No need to go into detail. We all got a 2020 and bad stuff tale. However, one of the side effects of the 2020 Bad Stuff was not only us watching a lot more of Twitch but also watching a lot of non-gaming related Twitch content for the first time. Which turn gave us two ideas: 1) We could probably premiere this showcase on Twitch and, 2) we could probably do a 24-hour stream. We did both and it was fun!

Wow, this is long. The spotlighting was supposed to be like a paragraph, maybe two. So, I’ll end it here, but not before telling y—NO! Daring you to take our General Survey on the AML Showcase 2020 and let us know what you thought of it. Okye, okay? Bye-bye.
